OKLAHOMA – The National Center for Health Statistics shows that only New Mexico has a higher teen birth rate than Oklahoma – for teens between 15 and 19 years old.

Oklahoma also has the highest birth rate for older teens ages 18 to 19 – which is the group that represents the majority of teen births.

To put it in perspective, more Oklahoma teens give birth in a given year than enroll in college at OU and OSU.

Guest speaker Ann Benson with the Oklahoma State Department of Health joins NewsChannel 4 to talk about this surprising number of teen births.
