OKLAHOMA CITY - A baby boy is fighting for his life in Oklahoma City.

The child suffered several injuries to his face, arm and ribs.

Oklahoma City police arrested the boy's own father for allegedly beating the baby.

The young victim turned three months old Friday.

He remains at Children's Hospital following an alleged case of child abuse.

The boy's mother Nakeeta Shoffner said, "It just hurts. It hurts. I don't wish this on nobody."

Shoffner says Thursday morning she returned to her home on South Portland after going to buy groceries and found her son with several injuries to his face.

"I looked at the baby and his lips were swollen. He had bruises," said Shoffner. "My baby was on his last breath."

Nakeeta says the boy's father, Antwuan Rabon, had been left alone to care for the child.

Police say he ran from the home after the mother called 911.

The father has since been arrested and allegedly had an excuse for what happened.

Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight said, "EMSA was told the child fell off the bed, but it's very clear the injuries were not consistent with a fall like that."

"If a baby fell off the bed, it's not going to be injured the way he was injured," said Shoffner.

In addition to the injuries to his face, the baby also had a fractured rib.

Nakeeta now hopes the boy's father is held accountable the alleged abuse.

"It's hard because I didn't think he'd do his own son like this," said Shoffner. "I never thought he'd do this to his own son."

The suspect remains behind bars at the Oklahoma County jail.
