Nearly 4,000 pounds of cocaine seized by authorities

COSTA RICA – Nearly 4,000 pounds of cocaine was seized recently by Costa Rican authorities.

The massive amount of narcotics was seized in two separate raids.

Security forces and the drug control police found 58 packets filled with cocaine during an operation yesterday on the beach town of Playa Linda.

The second raid took place in Guacimo De Limon, where 1,069 packets of cocaine were buried in a backyard.

Newly elected Costa Rican president Luis Guillermo Solis said drug trafficking in the country should be addressed as an issue of public safety.

Over the past four years, more than 114,000 pounds of cocaine is said to have been seized in Costa Rica.
