SEATTLE – A Seattle college community is grateful to a student hero who risked his life to stop a rampaging gunman.

The senior engineering student tackled the shooter, who had already killed one person and wounded several more this week.

22-year-old Jon Meis is the young man who kept his head in the middle of the chaos.

Now, the hearts of hundreds of staff and students at Seattle Pacific University, including his roommates, are filled with gratitude.

Meis sprung into action, using pepper spray, and tackling the gunman who opened fire Friday afternoon.

According to NBC, “As of Saturday, an online fundraiser had raised more than $23,000 for Jon Meis, who is apparently engaged and has an open wedding registry. The registry was found by members of the popular Internet site Reddit and quickly made the rounds online.”
