PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WTVT)-  A man who called 911 to report a robbery was transferred to voice mail before shooting one of the alleged intruders.

According to WTVT, four armed robbers broke into the man’ s home, looking for money and prescription drugs.

The victim called 911, saying the robbers had beaten him, his wife and stepmother.

However, when the dispatcher attempted to transfer the call to the police department, it went to voice mail.

After not getting anyone on the line, the man shot one of the alleged thieves.

Officials say the voice mail did not cause a delay in their response time but the dispatch system is being investigated.
