State Superintendent: Hofmeister ousts GOP incumbent, Democrats head to runoff

OKLAHOMA – Joy Hofmeister has won the Republican primary for State Superintendent. ssr

Hofmeister ran against the current State Superintendent Janet Barresi and Brian Kelly.

Hofmeister is a former public school teacher and former member of the Oklahoma State Board of Education.

She is also the president of JLH Resources which runs  a local franchise of Kumon, an after school reading program.

Barresi has been the State Superintendent since January 2011.


In the Democratic primary, John Cox and Freda Deskin, are headed to a runoff.

The runoff election is scheduled for August 26.

Hofmeister will face the winner of that race in the November general election.
