LINN COUNTY, Iowa – Severe thunderstorms ripped through eastern Iowa on Sunday night, bringing heavy rain, large hail, strong winds and even tornadoes.

Flash flooding has been a problem in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, with many roads in the Cedar Rapids area still closed.

One highway north of Mt. Vernon remains closed after it swallowed two vehicles.

Two cars were stuck in the hole for hours.  Luckily no one was injured.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Transportation have been on the scene already but can’t say yet how long this damage will take to fix.
