OKLAHOMA CITY – A man is facing animal cruelty charges after his son says he tried to choke the family dog.

Police say that Eduardo Santos, 28 was angry because his one-year-old Labrador/Pit Bull mix dog got out of the backyard.

The man’s 16-year-old son said Santos grabbed the dog by his collar, cinched it around the dog’s neck, and dragged the dog to the side of the  house.

According to police, the boy said the dog couldn’t breathe and was struggling to place his feet on the ground to escape Santos’ grip.

The boy told officers that his dad held the dog in the air for about 20 seconds, then forced the animal to the ground with a leash.

He also said the dog was gasping for air once he was freed and then laid on the ground.

Officers say Santos then threw a shovel at a smaller dog and  became aggressive toward his son and others at the home.

Officers on scene say Santos smelled of alcohol.
