OKLAHOMA CITY - Independence day is here and many Oklahomans are ready for a celebration.
But with the fun comes safety.
Last year, one home in Deer Creek burned to the ground after they had discarded firecrackers in their trashcan.
To avoid similar tragedies, Oklahomans planning to put on their own fireworks displays should make sure they take extra precautions.
If you are lighting your own fireworks, make sure you pay attention to wind, safety, and water.
Water should always be close by when lighting fireworks. As an extra precaution, many recommend pouring water over the fireworks after they are used.
Staff from Rudy's Fireworks recommend people use concrete blocks to protect larger fireworks from tipping over.
They also warn those who put on their own fireworks displays to use common sense by keeping an eye on everything and never put your head over the fireworks.
