Oklahoma City marathon runner Emerald Groom enjoys running races for the competition, the challenges and overcoming obstacles.

While she was training for the Chicago Marathon, Groom broke her right foot and leg.

Groom was on crutches for 17 weeks, ruling out running the Chicago Marathon.

While on crutches, Groom read about a North Carolina man that set the Guiness World Record for finishing a 5K run on crutches.

On January 11, 2014, Groom completed the Elvis 5K on cruthces at Lake Hefner and beat the man's time by nearly five and a half minutes to break the world record.

Groom is now running again and training to run the Route 66 Marathon in Tulsa on November 23, 2014.
