OKLAHOMA CITY –  Traffic is back to normal on Hefner Parkway after officers shut down a busy stretch of the road due to “suspicious bags” that were found nearby.

Oklahoma City Police shut down Hefner Parkway from Britton Road to the Northwest Expressway for almost an hour during the lunchtime rush Thursday.

Authorities were called to S. Lake Hefner Dr. and Portland Ave. after someone found abandoned bags just before noon.

Once the roadway was shut down, drivers started to go the wrong way on exits to avoid the mess, but added to the chaos and confusion in that area.

According to police, the bags were a half mile apart, and one was suspended on a bridge.

Officers investigated both bags and say there was nothing harmful inside.

Authorities say they could have possibly belonged to runners because there were clothes and drinks inside the bags.
