LOVINGTON, N.M., – Authorities in New Mexico say they are trying to find the person responsible for a severe case of animal cruelty.

A pitbull was stolen from a New Mexico home over a week ago.

Days later, police say she mysteriously showed up in someone’s front yard, suffering from severe acid burns on her back.

The dog underwent emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

The veterinarian who cared for the dog says she was likely stolen by someone who wanted to torture her or use her to train other pitbulls on how to fight.
