SARASOTA, Fla. – A deadly bacteria claimed the life of a man in Florida.
According to WFLA, health officials in Florida say are reminding people about a bacteria in Florida’s coastal water that has the potential to cause serious illness, and possibly death.
Two cases of Vibrio vulnificus were reported in July. Of the two men infected, one of them died.
Epidemiologist Michael Drennon said, “In both of these situations, the individuals had a cut or wound on their body that became infected and that progressed in illness and unfortunately in one individual, they passed away.”
Drennon says the public should definitely be aware of this virus. He says it is important to take the precautions needed to avoid exposure.
In both of the Florida cases, the people infected had underlying health conditions. However, anyone with an open wound or sore should be concerned.
