TULSA, Okla. – A high-ranking figure in a local Native American tribe has been arrested by the FBI.

Authorities say Muscogee Nation Second Chief Roger Dana Barnett, 53, was arrested in relation to federal charges, claiming he embezzled $150,000 from the tribe.

The indictment alleges Barnett embezzled, misapplied and used more than $1,000 of money and funds belonging to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

The FBI began investigating after tribal officials contacted authorities about the misuse of tribal funds.

If convicted, Barnett could face up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
