EDMOND, Okla. - Local police are investigating a number of smash and grabs.

The latest victim was a mother dropping off her son at daycare.

The woman says she left her purse in the passenger seat, locked the door and ran inside the daycare for three minutes.

That was more than enough time for someone to shatter her window and steal her valuables, including a loaded gun.

This was an especially brazen auto burglary.  The daycare is only one block from the Edmond Police Department.

Authorities say this incident is just one in a wave of recent smash and grabs this week.

Police say daycare centers can be an easy target.  Thieves stake them out, waiting for a frazzled mom to drop off her child.

Police suggest rolling up your windows and keeping your valuables in the trunk or out of sight.
