Former OU and Edmond Memorial pitcher Garrett Richards had been having his best season in the major leagues, but it ended prematurely on Wednesday night with a season-ending injury.

The L.A. Angels pitcher suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee while attempting to cover first base in the second inning of a game at Fenway Park against Boston.

Richards was carted off the field and on Thursday, the Angels announced he will be out six to nine months with the injury.

Richards was having his best season in the big leagues, with a 13-4 record and a 2.61 earned run average.
