CARROLLTON, Ga. – A 17-year-old faces charges in connection with the death of a 13-year-old boy.

Police say Nizzear Rodriguez was shot to death while he slept in his bedroom in his family’s apartment on Sunday morning.

Officers believe the shooting was possibly a case of mistaken identity.

“No enemies, you know, everybody liked the kid in the neighborhood, the school saying he’s a great kid, so that’s what makes this so, you know, terrible,” said Capt. Chris Dobbs, with the Carrollton Police Department.

Authorities arrested 17-year-old Malik Davis late Sunday night.

He is charged with murder, burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police are searching for a possible second suspect.
