Just a handful of pistachios a day could help reduce the risk of type two diabetes.

A new Spanish study included 54 adults with pre-diabetes.

Half of the group added two ounces of pistachios a day to their diet, while the other half added olive oil and other fats.

Four months later, only the pistachio group had significant drops in blood sugar and insulin levels, as well as improvements in insulin and glucose processing.

Researchers say other types of nuts would most likely have the same effect on diabetes risk.
