DENVER – Oklahoma native and Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended for the first four games of the season by the NFL.

ESPN reports Welker was suspended for use of amphetamines.

According to Fox Sports, the Broncos have known about Welker’s suspension since before training camp but were holding out hope on an appeal.

The football star reportedly tested positive from a sample taken shortly after he attended the Kentucky Derby. He claims the sample was tainted.

Welker was seen handing out $100 bills at the racing event.

Welker just returned to the Broncos practice field on Monday, nine days after suffering a concussion in a preseason game that was his third in the last 10 months.
