An Ebola patient who left quarantine without permission said he was searching for food.

At the same time, he risked infecting others and risked injury to himself.

The man wore a red tag that identified him as testing positive for Ebola.

When people at the market saw him with the red tag, they began to surround and threaten him.

The man picked up a stick and tried to get away form doctors who attempted to catch him.

The patient left Monrovia’s Elwa Hospital, which last month was so crowded it had to turn away possible Ebola patients.

Healthcare personnel in protective suits eventually forced the patient into a truck that took him back to the hospital.

More than 1,500 people in four west African countries have died from Ebola since the outbreak was first recorded in March of this year.
