SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Police say a gun went off inside a student’s backpack at a Missouri high school on Friday.

It happened around lunch time in the commons area.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

According to Springfield police, three people were taken into custody for questioning and one of them was arrested.

“A handgun that was located in a student’s backpack inadvertently discharged,” said Justin Herrell, the associate superintendent.

“Now had the gun not gone off, who knows if anyone would’ve known that he had it. That’s the scary part of it. What was his intentions with it? said Nicole Brunette.

Many parents came to pick up their kids early once they learned of the incident.
