The Central Oklahoma Bronchos are off to a stellar start in 2014. UCO earned their first season opening win since 2007 last Thursday against Fort Hays State on the road.
The Bronchos won the game 26-7, with the only FHSU touchdown coming off of a kickoff return. Which proves the defense is going to be a challenge for the MIAA Conference this year.
What makes UCO's win more impressive is the youth they have on the team. The Bronchos have only 9 seniors, 2 of which are on the offensive side of the ball.
The youth movement didn't matter. The ground game was impressive as redshirt freshman QB Chas Stallard rushed the ball 17 times for 107 yards and sophomore Jake Gandara carried it 24 times for 136 yards. The Bronchos put up over 400 yards of total offense in their week 1 win.
Now UCO's focus shifts to Missouri Western State this Saturday at 6pm. The Griffons own a 4-0 record against UCO all-time.
Broncho head coach Nick Bobeck went 1 on 1 with Dylan Buckingham to discuss his week 1 win, what he's learned in his 3 years at the helm, plus what he expects the Bronchos to achieve this season.
