TOKYO, Japan – Looks like Burger King is adding a new item to their Japanese menu.

The company will start selling the Kuro Pearl burger and the Kuro Diamond burger beginning on September 19.

The burgers will feature black buns, black sauce, black cheese and black-pepper heavy beef patties.

The company says bamboo charcoal and squid ink were added to the bun, cheese and sauce to make them darker.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the black burgers were first introduced for a limited time by the chain in 2012 and became a hit.  The burgers outsold all other new products that Burger King offered that year.

“The black burgers sold extremely well because of their visual impact, but people continued to come back for them because of their taste,” a spokeswoman for the company told Japan Real Time.
