GOSLAR, Germany – German construction workers have come under fire after installing a swastika at a shopping center.

According to Daily Mail, a new pathway had just been officially unveiled at one of the main shopping streets in Goslar when shoppers spotted the mistake in the bricks.

They immediately called police because any use of Nazi symbols is illegal in Germany.

The workers claim the shape of the bricks was an accident.

“We do not tolerate such behavior here,” said Christian Burgart, a spokesman for the city council. “It is inexcusable, therefore we ordered it be removed straight away.”

The workers rearranged the brick work so that it no longer resembled a swastika.

Police say they are investigating the incident.
