KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KSHB) – It’s a horrible crime; a Boxer-Rottweiler mix was tossed from a car with a note taped to her body.

Fortunately, her terrible tale has a happy ending.

‘Lakota’s’ story begins when Jeremy Pilaczynki saw something he said he will never forget.

“We were pulling up this road and a van slowed down in front of us and opened up a side door, dropped the dog out and the dog kept running this way,” he said.

‘Lakota’ ran but she could not catch up to the van.

KSHB says while ‘Lakota’ couldn’t catch up to the van, she ran straight into the arms of workers at Sallas Auto Repair.

“Furious, I couldn’t believe someone could do something like that,” said Jill West.

Pilaczynki agrees, saying he could not believe someone could abandon an “80 pound lap dog.”

West posted about ‘Lakota’s’ story on Facebook and her picture spread like wildfire.

“A friend of hers, who I do not know, was scrolling through Facebook and noticed his wife’s dog on Facebook,” West said.

Juanita Lukens was ‘Lakota’s’ original owner.

She says she has not seen the dog for some time because her beloved pet was lost during a move.

Lukens says she had a friend take care of ‘Lakota’ while she was in the process of moving.

However, her friend gave the dog to someone else without her permission.

West was able to reunite Lukens with her lost dog, who has a few bumps and bruises.

She also has residue stuck to her fur from a sign that was taped to her, saying, “My name is Lakoda. I am house trained and very friendly. I am old AND NEED A HOME.”

West doesn’t know who would toss the dog on the street, but believes they knew the dog’s original name but misspelled it.
