EDMOND, Okla. - Edmond Santa Fe's beloved janitor is now facing 5 charges of rape.

After months of investigating, officials tell NewsChannel 4 "Santa Fe Sam" is facing jail time.

His charges include molesting two young relatives and possession of child pornography.

Students and teachers describe "Santa Fe Sam" as an icon to the high school.

Santa Fe graduate Lauren Garcia says, “Everybody who’s ever been at Santa Fe knows him and loves him.”

Sam Selig worked as Edmond Santa Fe's custodian and sports announcer for years.

His familiar voice filled the stadium at home football games.

Students say it doesn't matter who you ask, everyone loved him.

“Even though he was like a custodian everybody in the school was best friends with him,” says Garcia.

Officials say Selig resigned this past April.

In a Facebook post before his last day at Santa Fe, he announced his resignation adding, “I have made a mistake in my life. A very horrible mistake. One that I cannot and will not run from.”

Rumors filled the halls at Santa Fe, but no one believed them.

“It was sad to hear those things but everybody was like 'Oh it’s Sam,'” says Garcia. “Sam couldn’t do anything like that.”

Selig is accused of molesting two of his young male relatives and soon will face five felony charges including child pornography.

When the allegations first surfaced months ago, NewsChannel 4 crews were there to confront him after he was questioned by Logan County officials.

We asked, “There are a lot of people who love and support you, do you want to say anything to them?”

He mumbled “No”.

Those who knew "Santa Fe Sam" the best say the allegations make them sick.

“It's kind of hard to hear,” says Garcia. “Even I never thought Sam could do anything like that. It’s just crazy.”

District officials released this statement, “Edmond Public Schools is shocked and saddened to learn of the troubling accusations against Mr. Selig.”
