Baby wipes sold at Walgreen’s, Family Dollar recalled for possible bacteria contamination
A new recall is forcing parents to think twice before using one necessity.
Nutek Disposables issued a nationwide recall for all of its baby wipes because some packages may contain bacteria.
Company officials say after they received a number of complaints of odor and discoloration, they found the presence of a bacteria in some of the products.
B. cepacia, the bacteria found on the wipes, can lead to infections in people with weakened immune systems or chronic lung diseases.
Some of the customer complaints include rash, irritation, infections, fever, gastro-intestinal issues and respiratory issues.
The wipes were sold under the following names:
- Member’s Mark
- Simply Right
- Sunny Smiles
- Tender Touch
- Well Beginnings.
The wipes were distributed to Walgreen’s, Sams’ Club, Family Dollar, Fred’s and Diapers.com.
Nutek says it recalled additional lots as a precaution.
“Nutek takes the safety of consumers and the quality of its products very seriously and is taking all appropriate steps to address the issue and ensure this does not happen again,” the news release said.
Customers can return the products for a full refund at the place of purchase.
So far, company officials have not identified the cause of the problem.
