OKEENE, Okla. - An Oklahoma family is dealing with a nightmare on Halloween week, after they say their yard was destroyed by the City of Okeene.

"It was a mess," said Connie Wood, who lives in the home. "You couldn't even walk on the sidewalk...it was pathetic."

On one side of Wood's home, the trees set a Fall-like atmosphere. But the front yard is now a different story.

When Connie returned home Tuesday, she says her trees were trimmed and chopped down by the city with no warning, to clear the way for power lines.

While the family understands why they're trimmed, what they don't understand is the waist-high mess left by the city that stretched from the street to their front door.

"It's a Nightmare on Elm Street," said Connie.

Some neighbors believe the trees may have been better in the hands of Freddy Krueger himself.

"Well there were tree limbs clean up to the trunk line of the trees," said neighbor, Anita Miller. "Not one of the better jobs they've done."

Even more frustrating for the Wood's, they say this all could've been avoided if they had just been warned.

"Give me some time, I would've been glad to have done it myself," said Connie. "Or hire somebody to do it, at least in a more professional way that's more presentable."

"There's no form to them, they just cut out of the middle," said John Wood, Connie's husband. "It's irresponsible that they couldn't notify us."

Now the Wood's hope mother nature nurtures their trees back.

"It'll be lucky if they come back," said Connie. "They're destroyed, they're butchered."

Okeene city officials did not comment on the story.
