UPDATE: Power has been restored to Quail Springs Mall, according to OG&E officials.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Shoppers who were trying to get a head start on their holiday gifts were forced to leave a popular Oklahoma City mall on Saturday evening.

According to security and customers, Quail Springs Mall lost power shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Shoppers were evacuated from the building as crews worked to restore electricity.

Crews say about 1,600 people are without power, including the mall and residents in Piedmont.

However, Oklahoma City police were called to help control the traffic as many customers tried to leave at once.

Also, OG&E reports that traffic lights are out in the area, adding to the congestion.

At this time, there is no word on when power will be restored.
