QUEENS, N.Y. (WPIX) - A father who butchered his wife to death in a jealous rage, along with his two toddlers, was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

According to WPIX, Miguel Mejia-Ramos, 29, was convicted of killing his family last January.

According to Mejia-Ramos, he came home to find his 21-year-old wife, Deisy Garcia, asleep in their bed.

He says he was drunk, went through her phone and discovered a photo of her with another man.

Enraged, he pulled a knife from a butcher block and attacked her.

Prosecutor's say she awoke to being stabbed and was so brutally attacked that the knife's blade broke.

Mejia-Ramos says he then kissed his two daughters, 2-year-old Daniela Majia and 1-year-old Yoselin Mejia, as they slept.

Authorities say he repeatedly stabbed the two children to death.

After the murders, he tried to flee to Mexico but was arrested in Texas.

In October, Mejia-Ramos pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree manslaughter.

In court, Mejia-Ramos stood before a seething judge, who was enraged at the brutality of the crimes.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder called him a "vile and despicable man" and said he was lucky the death penalty can no longer be imposed in New York.

"It is truly difficult to find words to describe how sickened people are in this courtroom at the sight of you," Holder said.

"I truly believe that the person who invented the electric chair or the gas chamber most certainly had you in mind when they designed it," he added.
