OKLAHOMA - Keeping tabs on elderly parents can be a challenge.

Now, thanks to sophisticated new home monitoring systems, it can be a little easier.

Savvy Senior columnist Jim Miller says these systems work through small wireless sensors placed in key locations throughout your parents' home.

The sensors then track your parents' movements, learning their daily patterns and routines.

The sensors can notify you via text message or email if something out of the ordinary is happening.

For instance, if your loved one doesn't open the medicine cabinet at their usual time, it could mean they forgot to take their medication.

Miller says a top company that offers this type of service is BeClose.

Cheaper options include Lively and Evermind.
