AURORA, Colo. - A big surprise for one Colorado mom, and we mean big!
A new mom was expecting her baby girl to weigh about seven pounds at birth, according to KDVR.
But when Alisha Hernandez went into labor, she came out with a 13 pound, 13 ounce newborn.
Hernandez had to have a c-section.
The baby was flown to another hospital that was equipped to deal with the infant's respiratory problems discovered at birth.
Mia is doing much better, and she's a new little sister to four other young girls.
Her father was surprised at her size.
"Not even, not even the twins that I have, both together they weigh 12 pounds, we got a big surprise," said Francisco Garcia, Mia's father.
Hospital officials said Mia is the biggest newborn baby they have ever treated.
