SAND SPRINGS,Okla.- Kylie Jones was found late Wednesday evening after Sand Springs police say they used phone records that led them to a Tulsa apartment.
Police say they found Jones unharmed with a 16-year-old boy and his mother.
Jones was not taken by force from the boy and his mother. She is on her way back to her grandmother in Ponca City.
PONCA CITY, Okla. - The search is on for an 8th grade Ponca City student who went missing after playing a basketball game in Sand Springs, Okla.
Now, police are using surveillance video to try and track down leads.
Ponca City Public School District officials say Kylie Jones, who is a player on the Ponca City Ladycat basketball team, had a game with her team at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sand Springs at Clyde Boyd Junior High School.
The coaches took a headcount of the girls twice and everyone was present.
Around 8:10 p.m., the coaches took their third headcount and noticed Kylie Jones was missing.
They searched the area and then called the Sand Springs Police Department.
Superintendent of Ponca City Schools Dr. David Pennington said, “The first concern of the school district is Kylie’s safe return, and we join with her family in praying for her safe return. It is our hope that Kylie will contact her family and let them know she is safe and will return home soon,” said Dr. David Pennington, superintendent of Ponca City Schools.
According to KTUL , police say they're not issuing an Amber Alert because it does not appear that she was abducted against her will.
Amber Alerts are only issued when a child has been abducted.
Video surveillance shows the girl leaving with two people.
In the video, a teenage boy is seen on the phone outside the school
At one point, he goes inside and starts to walk out with a person police believe to be Kylie Jones.
However, she and another woman stop at the bathroom.
Eventually, the boy grabs Jones' bag and walks out of the school.
Jones and the woman leave the building and she is seen hugging the boy outside.
"It looked like an older lady and a boy," said Kylie's grandmother. "So, I don't know if she has told them some story that she needed a place to go or what. I don't know what she has told them."
Kylie's grandmother says the teen ran away a couple of months ago but was found at a friend's house.
She says two days ago, Kylie asked to go back on depression medication.
After watching the video, Kylie's grandmother says she has no idea who the people are in the video.
"I don't think she knows the people. I think she thinks she does because if you talk on the Internet, you think you know them. The kids nowadays, that's what they think," she said.
Sand Springs police say they are contacting Kylie's friends to search for leads.
"It looks like, through the amount of phone calls back and forth or text messages back and forth between her and this one number, that they were making a plan to meet and this was a planned event. What we don't know is if she's safe. We don't know if this person is a child predator. We don't know if this is a child trafficker," said Capt. Todd Enzbrenner, with the Sand Springs Police Department.
If you have any information as to the whereabouts of Kylie Jones, please contact the Sand Springs (918-245-8777) or the Ponca City Police Department (580-767-0370).
