(CNN) – Sources say middle men possibly connected with ISIS may be trying to sell the body of a beheaded American for $1 million.

Four months after the murder of James Foley, National Security Council officials tell CNN they’re looking into a report that ISIS is trying to negotiate the sale of Foley’s body.

“ISIS is trying to sell the body of James Foley for $1 million,” said Mike Giglio, with BuzzFeed News.

Giglio first reported the story.

He spoke with three people he says are in contact with ISIS.

“I would say that each of these sources are people that I have known before that have reputations for being in connection with ISIS,” he said.

Giglio says ISIS is offering to provide a DNA sample to prove that it is Foley’s body and a middle man would deliver the body across the Turkish border.

U.S. Intelligence and military officials tell CNN that if the report is true, it’s another example of what they call ISIS’s “depravity.”
