OKLAHOMA CITY - Many families have already decorated their homes in preparation for Christmas.

However, Oklahoma City firefighters warn that some of those holiday staples could put your home in danger.

Many residents choose live Christmas trees for their smell and their appearance, but authorities say if you don't take precautions, they could cause a fire to easily spread.

Earlier this month, the fire department held a demonstration using two trees set up side by side.

One of the trees had been watered daily, while the other had been neglected.

Before our camera could even pan away from the flame touching the neglected tree, it was already engulfed in flames.

Seconds later, there was hardly anything left.

The watered tree was also set on fire but the flames didn't spread as quickly.

However, it was still enough to possibly catch nearby furniture on fire.
