UPS: Today is busiest shipping day of the year
UPS expects today to be the busiest shipping day of the year.
UPS predicts it will deliver more than 34 million packages Monday, which is double the amount of a normal day.
To handle the workload, the company announced in October it would hire up to 95,000 seasonal workers, which is more than the 55,000 workers it initially hired last year.
Last year, UPS was forced to hire an additional 30,000 workers to keep up the pace when it was caught off guard by an increasing number of American consumers who bought gifts online and shipped them last-minute.
However, the additional help was too late.
Some UPS deliveries did not make it until after Christmas.
