MADISON, Conn. – A grandfather is getting a gift from Santa that he will never forget.
Leo Otero is receiving a day off from his job and he has his grandson to thank.
Most kids will ask for toys and electronics this holiday season.
For Leo Otero’s grandson, Julian, toys and gadgets were not at the top of his Christmas list.
“We always spent Christmas together, so this would have been my first Christmas without them,” Otero said.
Julian had a very specific request for the manager of the Madison Beach Hotel, so he decided to write a letter to Santa.
“My greatest wish is that you talk to my grandfather’s boss, Mr. John Mathers, and ask him if he could give my grandfather Christmas Day off,” the note read.
He couldn’t let the opportunity pass, so he asked Santa for one more thing.
“If you have time and think I earned it, I would also love a (sic) Xbox 360. Thanks Santa,” Julian’s letter read.
Otero’s daughter saw the note and shared it with him.
“It’s real touching and being that he’s my older grandson, I had to do something,” he said.
Otero shared the note with the hotel’s manager, John Mathers.
In response, Mathers wrote a short memo to Otero.
“[Santa] was concerned that you were planning to work on Christmas Day. Your grandchildren are quite upset about this! I think it would be best if you planned to take the day off and spend it with your family. Work can wait until after Christmas. Do you know that Julian wants an XBox 360? Santa is not sure he’s ready for such a fancy toy,” it read.
“This is the first time I’ve had a direct intervention from Santa Claus himself,” said John Mathers.
