KYOTO, Japan– Some girls spend their childhood dreaming about the perfect wedding, but sometimes, Prince Charming doesn’t arrive on the preferred timeline. Well that little problem is being solved in Japan. How?
Cerca Travel Agency is now offering a one-person get-away trip for the girl who ‘don’t need no man,’ for prices starting at $2,645 “per bride,” according to the Kyoto Convention Bureau.
According to the travel agency, the two-day trip to Kyoto consists of a dress consultation on the first day, with the option to select either a traditional Japanese gown or a white wedding dress. And on the second day, the “bride” is provided with a hair and makeup session, with a photographer capturing the preparation, as well as taking glamour shots in the Japanese garden of Shugakuin Kirara Sanso.
Cerca says there’s also an option to hire a Japanese groom for the photos, or a partner to have dinner with the first night. But there’s no actual wedding ceremony, just the garb and the photos.
The agency claims that the weddings are meant to boost self-esteem, and to “encourage women to have positive feelings about themselves,” Yukiko Inoue, Cerca Travel President said.
About 30 women have booked the trip since it started in May of this year, according to Kyodo News.
That may not seem like much, but it shows who is interested in the idea of solo weddings.
Cerca says about half of the women were currently married, but had not had a wedding — or were unsatisfied with it.
So while some of the women are looking to empower themselves, others just want to fulfill the dream they’ve had since they were young.
