Update 3:25 p.m. – Officials have reopened the westbound lanes of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike near mile maker 100.


NEWCASTLE, Okla. – As travelers hit the roads this holiday weekend, there’s an important traffic alert you need to know about.

An accident involving two cars is closing down a stretch of a busy Oklahoma highway.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has closed the westbound lanes of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike at mile marker 100.

The crash site is 7 miles south of Newcastle, Okla.

The wreck happened just before 2:00 p.m. Friday.

OHP is urging drivers to take another route to avoid that stretch of I-44 (H.E. Bailey Turnpike).
