UPDATED 1/5/15 6:31 A.M.

GUTHRIE, Okla. – A man is in the hospital after a shooting involving an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper.

The shooting took place in Guthrie Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. near E. Harrison Ave. and N Wentz St., which is just west of the Logan County Courthouse.

Troopers say it started a routine traffic stop.

According to OHP, a trooper pulled over the suspect, but details as to why the suspect was stopped are unclear at this time.

The shooting is still under investigation.

“All we have right now is that a trooper was involved in a shooting with one suspect and one trooper.  The trooper is ok, the suspect’s apparently gone to the hospital,” said Lt. John Vincent, OHP.

More details about the shooting are expected to be released today from OHP.
