(NBC) – United States officials say ISIS militants are attacking the al-Assad airbase in Iraq on a daily basis.

U.S. personnel are training Iraqi security forces at the al-Assad base.

While authorities say the base has been hit by mortar attacks almost daily, they say the attacks have been “completely ineffective.”

Col. Steve Warren said the “nuisance attacks” have not damaged or injured U.S. personnel or equipment.

Right now, there are 2,140 American soldiers and Marines in Iraq.
