State Trio Earns Big 12 Honors

The Big 12 conference announced its weekly men’s and women’s basketball honors on Monday, January 5, and three players from the state of Oklahoma were honored.

Oklahoma State guard Phil Forte was named the conference’s men’s Player of the Week.

Forte averaged 20.5 points a game and made 6-of-12 from three-point range in OSU’s wins over Missouri and Kansas State last week.

It’s the first time Forte has earned a Big 12 weekly honor.

Oklahoma’s TaShawn Thomas is the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

Thomas averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the Sooners’ wins over George Mason and Baylor.

Oklahoma’s Gioya Carter is the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Carter averaged 20.5 points and 7 rebounds in OU’s wins over Yale and West Virginia.

Carter scored 17 against Yale, and 24 against West Virginia, both of which were career highs.

It’s Carter’s first Big 12 weekly honor.
