SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KTLA) - A California man is behind bars after allegedly trying to abduct a 3-year-old from her home.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the man was able to grab the girl by reaching through her bedroom window.

"He leaned in the window and then told her to come toward him," said Adriana, the girl's aunt.

Family members heard a commotion and saw the man take off with the child.

Authorities say the girl's uncle and father chased the man down the street.

"I actually ran behind him," said Jesus, the girl's uncle. "I think he heard my footsteps and then he turned around quickly and asked me if this was my daughter."

The man handed the child over to her uncle and was then tackled by her father.

When police arrived, they quickly took the suspect into custody.

Fortunately, the child was not injured.

Investigators say the abduction was "totally random" and there was not a connection between the alleged kidnapper and the girl.
