FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) – A soldier in North Carolina is recovering after trying to surprise his wife.

Fayetteville police say 27-year-old Tiffany Segule went back to bed after her husband, 28-year-old Zia Segule, went to work.

According to WTVD, Zia had planned to surprise her with breakfast in bed.

When he arrived back at the home, the couple’s alarm system went off.

Authorities say Tiffany grabbed a gun and shot through the couple’s bedroom door, hitting her husband in the chest.

Officials did not say whether Zia ever announced himself or tried to turn off the alarm.

Zia was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.

Tiffany was questioned by police, who say she was on edge after a series of recent burglaries in the area.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
