PATERSON, N.J. — A ninth grade student in New Jersey was arrested after police say he attacked his teacher by slamming him to the floor in front of the class.

The attack was captured on video, showing the student slamming the 62-year-old teacher to the floor in the classroom after the teacher took away his phone on Thursday, WPIX reported.

According to WPIX, school officials say the teen is facing criminal charges and has been suspended.

“What strikes me is that the teacher never even defended himself,” Lee McNulty, a retired teacher who has been vocal recently with criticism about violence and disorder in the high school, told NorthJersey.com. “That just shows how much teachers are afraid of losing their job.”
