GUTHRIE, Okla. -- A Guthrie homeowner says he had no choice but to shoot another man who charged at him with a knife.
The shooting happened in the 1300 block of West Washington Street.
The victim is in serious condition while the alleged shooter was taken to jail.
Saturday afternoon, the 911 calls from both the shooter and victim were released to NewsChannel 4.
The victim and suspect were so close together that you can hear the men in the background of each other’s calls to 911.
First the victim calls in.
"911 what's your emergency?" the dispatcher asked.
The victim replied, "I ******* need an ambulance I've been shot."
The dispatcher asks the victim what his name is and he replies “Noel.”
The dispatcher then asks, "Okay Noel where are you shot at hun?"
"My leg." Noel replied.
Then another call comes in from 29-year-old Justin Wallage.
"911 What's your emergency?" the dispatcher asked.
"I got a guy shot in the leg in my driveway," Wallage said.
While the victim moans in pain on the other line, the dispatcher asks Wallage who shot the man.
That’s when Wallage says he shot him in self-defense.
"I'm not trying to hurt anybody, but I'm not going to get stabbed either," Wallage said.
"Okay where did the shooter go?" the dispatcher asked.
"I was the one who discharged the round defending myself," Wallage said.
"Sir, listen to me. Why did you fire the weapon?" the dispatcher asked.
"Because he pulled out his knife and he charged me with it," Wallage said.
Moments later police show up and take over.
"Police and paramedics arrive. They transport the victim to the hospital. We got an update on him, he got out of surgery and he's listed in serious condition," Sgt. Jeremy Thorne, with Guthrie Police, said.
Wallage has been booked into the Logan County Jail for Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
Guthrie Police say they anticipate more charges to be filed against Wallage.
As for the victim, no word on if he will face any charges.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation and looking into what led to the shooting.
