CLERMONT, Fla. – Churchgoers in Florida are trying to understand a message left at their house of worship.
“It’s just crazy. It’s just crazy. If you don’t want to go to church, don’t go. No one is telling you to go there,” said Victor Lopez Jr.
A woman working at Clermont’s Real Life Christian Church found a dead cat on a cross and two different Bible verses.
“Thou shalt not make my father’s house a den of thieves. Read Matthew 7:3, you hypocrites,” the message read.
The church issued the following statement:
“We are truly saddened by this inhumane act against one of God’s creatures. While we have no idea what would prompt someone to do something like this, we are praying for them and for those affected by it.”
Nearby residents are shaken by the bizarre message.
“I think it’s horrific. I wouldn’t have imagined anything like that in this town,” said Rudolph Estrada.
“With the anti-religious movement that’s going on today, you know, people just do not like Christ. When you mention Jesus, you know, people get offended,” said Lopez. “Unfortunately, we’ve got some fools who live in this world. That’s all I can say. They’re fools and hopefully they repent before their time is up.”
