COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina mother was charged after allegedly using her 4-year-old son to smuggle in marijuana to her incarcerated boyfriend.

According to WECT, 24-year-old Jenifer Lynn Patterson took her two children with her to the Columbus Correctional Institution to visit her boyfriend, 24-year-old Cody Lambert.

Patterson reportedly told Lambert the drugs were in the 4-year-old’s pants pockets.

When the mother took the older child to the restroom, surveillance video shows Lambert reaching into the 4-year-old’s pocket and removing the marijuana.

Patterson was charged with providing drugs to an inmate.

According to WECT, charges are pending against Lambert, who is serving time for possessing a firearm as a felon.

Officials say both children were turned over to the Department of Social Services.
