The news of Charles Manson’s potential marriage sparked headlines not too long ago, but the alleged reason why his fiancée wanted to marry him might spark even more attention.

According to the New York PostManson’s fiancée, 27-year-old Afton Elaine Burton, who goes by Star, sought to wed the convicted mastermind behind multiple murders so that she could gain possession of his remains once he died.

Journalist Daniel Simone told the New York Post that the marriage was all part Burton’s plan to profit by putting Manson’s body on public display after his death.

Simone says Burton intended to lay out Manson’s body in a glass crypt, hoping to draw huge crowds and make big money.

The couple’s marriage license expired last week, and Manson has no interest in renewing the license and marrying Burton according to Simone.

“He’s finally realized that he’s been played for a fool,” Simone told the New York Post.

However, a statement on MansonDirect.com, a site Burton reportedly runs, says Burton and Manson “plan on renewing the license, and things will move forward in the coming months.”
