SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A South Dakota lawmaker is making national headlines after saying Planned Parenthood is worse than ISIS.

Republican member of South Dakota’s House of Representatives Isaac Latterell attacked Planned Parenthood on his website, comparing them to the militant group ISIS.

Latterell claims Planned Parenthood takes part in the dilation and evacuation abortion procedure, which he says is worse than the beheadings of prisoners by ISIS.

“Planned Parenthood abortionists in Sioux Falls are similarly beheading unborn children during dismemberment abortions,” Latterell wrote. “Most people are unaware that this is happening, because Planned Parenthood of Sioux Falls denies that they behead or otherwise dismember unborn children.”

According to WebMD, the dilation and evacuation procedure is done on the second 12 weeks of pregnancy.  It usually includes a combination of vacuum aspiration, dilation and curettage, and the use of surgical instruments.

Planned Parenthood denies the allegations that they perform this abortion procedure in South Dakota.  In fact, Planned Parenthood states they only perform first trimester abortions in the state.

“I think the majority of South Dakotans would agree that comparing Planned Parenthood to a terrorist organization is just going too far,” Planned Parenthood spokesperson Jennifer Aulwes told Talking Points Memo. “No matter what you feel about abortion or about Planned Parenthood, it’s an inflammatory and a really inappropriate comparison.”

At the end of his blog post, Latterell said he wants to hold Planned Parenthood accountable.

“No state, no religion, and no organization should ever be allowed to use this unspeakably horrifying method. While we rightly take the speck out of our neighbor’s eye by holding ISIS accountable, let us be sure to take the plank out of our own eye by holding Planned Parenthood accountable,” he wrote.
